When Emme booked her senior photo session with me, I was SO excited! She is a high school senior at The Lovett School in Atlanta. I had the pleasure of working with her sister several years ago in Memphis and couldn’t believe it was already Emme’s turn in front of the camera (but this time in Tuscaloosa since I moved here last year!).
For seniors who like nature and urban images, we can combine many different looks in one session. Downtown Tuscaloosa has many pretty storefronts, interesting alleys and lots of background colors and textures. The University of Alabama campus also offers many beautiful backdrops, from academic buildings to florals and greenery.
Emme trusted me to design an agenda for her session and we had a blast! She had her hair and makeup done locally. Her styling was perfect and included a mid-length dress, dress pants and a colorful romper. In our pre-session consultations, I encourage clients to think about posing during our photoshoot. It’s always my goal to capture a variety of images with different poses. It’s easier to do that if we have at least one pants outfit in the mix and if our outfits are easy to move around in overall.
Our first stop was at the Federal Courthouse in Downtown Tuscaloosa. I love the neutral light gray limestone backgrounds. They work well with almost any color and type of outfit and the lighting is always perfect. We can do standing, sitting, leaning and crouching poses using the columns, walls and benches.

After the courthouse, we took a walk on University Avenue.

We chose the Gorgas Museum and an academic building at UA for the next spot. I love the museum because it has pretty white fencing, gorgeous steps with iron railing and flowers blooming on the grounds. It’s also close to many other pretty academic buildings with interesting architecture for our images.

Our last stop is one of my favorites, the Randall Welcome Center on the UA campus. The clean white backgrounds and golden afternoon lighting make it a favorite for local photographers. Emme looked amazing in her beautiful romper and it was the perfect place to finish our fabulous session!
