Celebrating Senior Year: Emmy’s Senior Portraits in Tuscaloosa, AL

I’d been looking forward to working with Emmy ever since I took her sister’s senior photos a few years ago. She’s a rising senior at the Desoto School in West Helena, Arkansas. When she said she was willing to roadtrip from West Helena, Arkansas to take her senior portraits with me in Tuscaloosa, I was SO excited!

Last December, after 17 years of living in Memphis, it was time for a move! After running my photography business for over 9 years and specializing in High School senior and College grad portraits, I moved to Alabama. I absolutely love living in Tuscaloosa and enjoy scouting all the fun spots to take my seniors for their portrait sessions. From Downtown Tuscaloosa to the University of Alabama campus to local parks, we can capture a variety of different looks all in one session.

Emmy chose a variety of different looks for her session, which gave her a great variety of images in her gallery. Typically, I advise clients to plan a dress, skirt and pants look if possible. Having at least one pants outfit is a must in my book. This is key to helping me pose you in different ways. In pants, you can sit, crouch and do other poses a bit easier than in a dress or skirt.

Our first location was the Federal Courthouse building. It’s a perfect neutral background for a lot of different outfits.

After our first outfit change we headed to two other spots I love in Downtown Tuscaloosa. Emmy’s gorgeous two piece skirt outfit coordinated perfectly with the backgrounds and the images we captured are stunning! Some of my favorite spots for colorful images are near Big Bad Breakfast, Five Bar and The Alamite Hotel. (I also highly recommend you check them out for fab food and a gorgeous place to stay when you are in Tuscaloosa!)

The next stop (after another outfit change) was the Gorgas House Museum on the campus of the University of Alabama. The stairs, porches and well manicured gardens are the perfect spot for senior photos. Fun fact…it was built in 1829 and is the oldest building on the UA campus! Emmy’s dress was absolutely stunning! The overall fit and detailed floral embroidery was gorgeous. I love when my clients choose unique outfits that coordinate perfectly with our locations.

We stopped by the Randall Welcome Center on the UA campus before the next outfit change. The welcome center is quickly becoming one of my favorite spots on campus for HS seniors and college grads. It’s all white backdrop is neutral and looks great with many different outfit styles and colors.

The last stop on our session agenda was a field with flowers and natural bridge area where we could showcase Emmy’s beautiful floral maxi-dress.

What a fabulous and colorful session! Emmy is such a talented and sweet young woman and an absolute pleasure to work with. Even though it was pretty hot on our session day, she kept smiling and handled it so well. (Shoutout to Raven for her fab work on Emmy’s hair and makeup. Click here to see more of her work!)

It’s always my mission to offer my clients a custom VIP experience. That means we work together a lot before your session to prepare you well. I always say preparation is key to a stress free session day. First, we choose your locations and then begin selecting the best outfits for those locations. Securing hair and makeup professionals early in the process is very important. Alabama humidity is legendary and present most of the year to some degree. Getting your hair & makeup done professionally ensures it will last for your whole shoot. Click here to learn more about booking your own custom senior portrait session in Tuscaloosa!
